MatSE Professor Jessica Terbush has been chosen as one of the recipients of the Engineering Council Award for Excellence in Advising.

“Her students nominated her and the Engineering Council’s Advisors List Selection Committee has chosen her as one of the top 10% of engineering advisors,” Martin Wong, College of Engineering Executive Associate Dean, said.

“I feel extremely honored to receive this award, especially since it is coming from the students,” Terbush said. “As one of the newer members of the department, I don’t always have the years of experience to fall back on, but I try to do my best for them.”

She will receive her award at the College of Engineering Faculty Awards Ceremony on Monday, April 23, at the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA).

Dr. Terbush has also received the Teaching Excellence Award from the Committee of Academic Affairs in the Illinois Student Government.

“Students nominate educators that have had a prominent impact on their academic experience at the University of Illinois. This award is the highest honor that the student body has for the educators at this university,” Vikram Sardana, Chair of the Committee of Academic Affairs said.

In addition to a plaque, which will be hung in the Senate Complex in the Illini Union, there will be an awards banquet on April 22 to honor Terbush and additional award winners.

“It’s very rewarding, knowing that I am having an impact on their lives even outside of the classroom,” Terbush said of her students.
